For the past couple days I’ve been contemplating what my New Year’s resolution should be. Now usually I am not the type of guy to have a New Year’s resolution, or the type of guy to even think about having one. They always felt useless to me, considering the fact that everyone is always going on about how they usually give theirs up a month or two in. However, this year I’ve decided it will be different for whatever reason. I’ve compiled a list of things I’d like to do or accomplish this year and now I am going to present it to you. I think the overall theme is structure. I didn’t include things like “getting a job” or “getting my license” because while those are essential and are currently in the works, there is only so much I can do. Thinking about those things brings me so much dread and I want to focus on things that I enjoy.
- Watch two episodes of Always Sunny every Monday night, starting from the beginning.
- Just for fun. It provides a constant and something to look forward to.
- Establish a solid nightly routine.
- My nightly routine is more like an every-other-nightly routine. I’d like to make it something that I do without thinking about it. I think it’ll help my brain with the transition between evening leisure time and bedtime.
- ABOLISH PHONE-IN-BED TIME.
- Almost nothing good comes out of phone-in-bed time. I’m going to start putting my phone on my bookshelf or desk before bed. I’d like to replace it with maybe book-in-bed time or journal-in-bed time or even just TV time. Anything but phone-in-bed time.
- Doodle mindlessly once a day.
- Today was the first day I’ve done this! I’ll post the page for today on my liveblog. Maybe I’ll make it its own special place somewhere on my blog even…
- Dial in on physical media—mostly music.
- I’d like to make it so that I only use Spotify when it is extremely inconvenient or just impossible to play music physically. I have plenty of records and CDs already, I need to put them to use! Maybe I’ll purchase a DVD player and get into that whole schtick. I’d really like to.
- Only buy or accept clothes I really really like.
- This past year my issues with clothing consumption have really exemplified themselves, as they have with our society as a whole. As I’ve explored and learned to understand my style, I’ve bought or accepted pieces of clothing just because I kind of liked them or I kind of thought they looked cool, and then never wore them. This year, I really only want to accept and/or purchase clothing I love, that I know I’ll wear and wear in multiple ways.
- Learn to understand and accept my needs.
- This is kind of a heavy hitter, especially after my last post, but I really want to rewire things and learn to stop putting my needs on the back burner. I’ve grown to understand that as much as I don’t want to be, I am a guy who kind of requires a lot of work and love. High maintenance naturally, conditioned to be low maintenance, one may say. And that is okay! I have plenty of people who have seen past my thin walls and love me for who I am as a piece of work. I appreciate that.
- Restrict smoking habits.
- I literally tell myself I’m gonna do something along these lines like every month. I REALLY mean it this time, though. We’re gonna try to keep it down to one to two times a week. I’ve tried specific days and that doesn’t really work for me, so we’re just sticking with the amount limit.
- Not any certain amount of books, just reading more than I am currently, which is not enough.
- Watch at least one movie a week.
- Hopefully more like two, I’m thinking of dedicating Sunday and Wednesday nights to this.
That’s all I’ve got for right now!!!!1! If I can think of any more throughout the month I’ll add to this list, and if you can think of any more you should comment, I’d love to hear about it. :) Peace out.
